Moons of Uranus

Picture
Uranus has 27 known moons. Titania, the largest, is about half the size of our own moon. Miranda is the smallers of Uranu’s moons The moons are all made of ice and rock. Most of the moons, including Titania, Oberon, and Umbriel, seem to be "normal" moons without anything interesting; however, Miranda and Ariel seem to have had violent pasts. Most of the moons appear to be captured asteroids due to their size and orbits. Scientists have divided Uranus’ moons into groups – inner moons, major moons, and irregular moons.

Inner Moons:  The inner moons consist of 13 moons. The thirteen moons are
Cordelia, Ophelia, Bianca, Cressida, Desdemona, Juliet, Portia, Rosalind, Cupid, Belinda, Perdita, Puck, and Mab.

Major Moons: Uranus has five large moons, which are known as its major moons. They are Miranda,
Ariel, Umbriel, Titania, and Oberon. Titania is the largest of the major moons with a diameter of 1,578 kilometers; it is the eighth largest moon in the Solar System

Irregular Moons: Uranus also has nine irregular moons. These and the thirteen inner moons were not discovered until the Voyager probes started doing flybys of the planet. The irregular moons are much further away from the planet than the major moons are, and scientists speculate that they were caught by the planet’s gravity. The irregular moons include Francisco, Caliban, Stephano, Trinculo, Sycorax, Margaret, Prospero, Setebos, and Ferdinand.
